HTC is probably not intending to introduce a new flagship handset at 2018 Mobile World Congress, although the Taiwanese firm is definitely prepping the release of their latest top-notch device. We are aware of this as, the previous week, HTC exhibited an unknown handset in Taiwan during last days of January, in the course of an event organized by a local service provider where the device was used to show the features of the 5G network. Subsequently, photograph shows the device running Speedtest revealing download rates of over 800Mbps. However, HTC has concealed the top and lower areas of their unspecified handset, not to mention its backside, therefore we cannot have a good view of its structure and design. Either way, based on the tweet from our trusted leaker Evan Blass (referred to as @evleaks), it is, evidently, going to be the successor to previous year’s HTC U11 smartphone, named HTC U12 aka HTC Imagine.
From the photographs we observed, the suspected HTC U12/Imagine will feature 18:9 bezel-less display screen. Identical to its earlier model U11+, HTC U12 may also include a 6-inch inch display screen. The device was highlighted as being efficient at providing download rates of 809.58 Mbps – which is nearly 1 Gb per second. Apparently, this is because of the U12 is driven by a Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 Soc that features a Qualcomm X20 LTE modem that can handle download rates of around 1.2 Gbps. As reported by Taiwanese journal Sogi, HTC asserted that their upcoming handset will be introduced sometime in 2018. Allegedly, the firm refused to disclose the handset’s identify, thus it is unclear if it is going to be unveiled as the HTC U12. So, we have to wait to find out what HTC got for us, meanwhile, we’re also expecting more leaks of this device on upcoming days.
